WHO ARE THE FIRST NATION PEOPLE OF NORTHERN TURTLE ISLAND? [Canada]First Nation people of Turtle Island known to many as Canada are the First People of Canada. Upon contact with Settlers, the settlers were nervous about the First Nation people as they roamed freely upon their homeland, hunting fishing, and gathering medicines, and water. So nervous the government birthed known today as a group of men referred to as the RCMP. The Royal Mounted Police. Their mandate was to control the Indians they called the First Nation back then. The settlers were so intimidated by First Nation people they decided to create was is known today as First Nation Reserves and ALL First Nation people were forced to live in small sections of their land. Told they could no longer fish, hunt or travel as they did upon what was their land. This government went on to take ALL the children 4 years of age and up from their parents and put them in what became known as Residential Schools. If the parents refused they were sent to prison. Either way, you would lose your children. First Nation people were controlled by the loss of their children and land. Threaten with unimaginable hardships if they disobeyed these settlers with guns. They were forced to stay in small areas of their lands. Settlers brought liquor to trade for furs and other goods First Nation people were able to harvest. The liquor was soon recognized to numb the pain of the loss of their children. Hence the birth of alcoholism amongst First Nation people crippling generations. First Nation children were sold even to the Royals for 10.00 per child. The children became the gardeners yet fed scraps at their table for meals the founder of the projects Great Grandmother shared. [at 104 years of age she marched in that school daily to check on the children] Her land was stolen by settlers to resurrect a Residential School. Even under her watchful eye First Nation children were beaten, raped, and sodomized by priests from the two main churches in those days. The children were not permitted to see their families, nor practice their culture. The schools' mission was to remove the Indian from the children and teach them the settlers' way. Many babies born from the rapes were thrown into burning fires alive. Why? The priest had no way to account for the food or raising of such children. Young women were aborted with coat hangers. Dentistry and Physicians practiced on First Nation people without anesthetic and the list of tortures continue to lengthen. First Nation people were shown in textbooks as those people who lived in Tee Pee's and lived off the land with bow and arrows versus the calm, peaceful lives they once maintained before contact of settlers, no one had a want, there were no jails or persons who would go hungery. Everyone was looked after, everyone had a task, a purpose in their community. If you had no were to stay as you traveled you'd be welcomed in by a host family, fed and looked after. There were no locks on doors or gates to keep visitors out. Children could grow within a community watching out for their every need as they learnt to master their tasks. A life today most people could only dream about... First Nation people owned this land which has been taken from them and though today many First Nation people are protesting to have land back some are successful while others continue to bow down. First Nation people are known around the world as the "KEEPERS OF MOTHER EARTH which include the LIVING WATER" For decades as First Nation people gain strength in one area, another area is weakened. Northern Turle Island First Nation people are going missing in alarming numbers over recent years. The media generally refuses to cover the stories of most families. Government aid for searches is little to none or long after the window of possibly finding a missing person alive. Who are First Nation people? We are the first people of this land known as Canada. Our laws still exist and though we no longer are held hostage in Residential Schools many of our children are held hostage in the government's reach through the Social Services Act, still today taken away from their families seldom returned. Our families are continuously torn apart either by theft of our people's lives through abduction, ministries etc. Your support for MMI MISSION will assist our First Nation families in ways words are impossible to express! All lives deserve freedom versus kept from enjoying other communities due to lack of SAFE transportation. We are proud people, still today the owners of Turtle Island. We welcome the settlers who recognize they are the guests upon our land and treat Mother Earth and her Water with great respect.
